The tarsoly cover plate of Besenyõtelek

Provenance:
Besenyõtelek-Szõrhát, Heves county.

Discovery of the finding:
In 1960, during sand mining some graves were found. No controlled excavations took place at the site, and a part of the finds were lost.

Material:
Silver foreplate, copper backplate. The four mounts and the little strap end were cast of bronze.

Size:
Incomplete tarsoly cover plate: 97x58 mm, mounts of suspender strap: 14x11 mm, little strap end: 43x12 mm.

Preparation method:
The rivet heads are cast.

Artwork:
The plate is quite fragmentary, only the lower third survived. The unornamented silver frontplate was riveted to the copper backplate with a line of rivets at the border. The rivets form drops rising from the middle of two dots. The mounts of the closing and the suspender straps are shield-shaped, fitting in each other at their ends, their surface decorated by a sunken four-petalled flower pattern.
